Thanksgiving Day fire rips through multiple homes in New Bedford – WCVB Boston

At least 27 people were displaced by a Thanksgiving morning blaze which broke out in a home on Washburn Street in New Bedford and spread to three apartment buildings.The preliminary investigation suggests that the blaze was started by someone attempting to deep-fry a turkey, officials said. Thick smoke filled the neighborhood as several homes caught fire around 10 a.m. Thursday. A firefighter on the scene said three structures in all were involved in the blaze.Photos and video from the scene showed firefighters using ladder trucks to access the upper levels of the buildings, spraying water from several positions in an effort to keep the flames at bay.At least 27 people who lived inside the three separate buildings were displaced by the blaze. A resident told WCVB that the blaze started with some sort of explosion. One person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. An update on her condition was not immediately available.
